A public viewing & on going love affair pt. II

Final selection from the Maggie Barry 'Wrapped in Beauty' photo shoot.
This was also my opportunity to shoot with a very talented friend Heather Burton. We had been trying to set something up for well over 2 months. It wasn't until well after this particular shoot that I realized that this would be our moment of glory.
Heather leaves to Japan in a couple of weeks. We wish her the best & also look forward to her drunk ramblings via

153 FRAMES VS 145 BPM

Heather Burton wears a selection from Maggie Barry's 'Wrapped in Beauty' collection. An event which was held at the old Alexandria Hotel featuring work by photographer Ash Gupta as well as designs from several others.
Ash & myself split camera time at this event where the photo shoot was to be the center of attention.
Here's a short video of some of the nights special moments mixed in with an event that took place later that evening.

Non Abrasive Soap & The Collapse of an Upward Spiral

The Mars Volta

De-Loused in the ComatoriumI met Cedric in Hollywood, 2003. His band The Mars Volta had just finished recording their best selling album to date, De-Loused in the Comatorium.
One of my all time favorite albums.

He & the late Jeremy Michael Ward (pictured below) attended an event my partners & I organize every Thursday night called RESPECT. Soon after this picture was taken, Jeremy would pass away from an apparent overdose while on tour. Although it was a brief encounter I couldn't help but be touched by the passing of a talented artist. It was obvious that Jeremy played a big part in the structure & early success of the band. The band would take a break & regroup with a couple of additions.

Frances the MuteA couple of close friends ended up landing gigs for most of the production of the bands follow up album Frances the MuteLots of perks. Countless numbers of shows, parties & a cameo in The Widow Video. What was not to like about this band? Very much enjoyed the experience & the music that surrounded me at the time. Frances the Mute would also go down as another one of my all time favorite albums. Not to mention the album art was done by one of my biggest design influences Storm Thorgerson. Storm is most popular in the music scene for designing & shooting most of Pink Floyds amazing album covers.

I've been busy these days & haven't really kept up too much with the band but as sure as the days turn to grey, I'm sure our paths will cross again.

Split The Pig:Run Jesus Run

"Ah," you'll say, "this sounds like OK Computer, but with a little more bad-trip paranoia undercurrents." Then you notice the bedrock undercurrent of industrial tinkering, as though Einsturzende Neubauten was practicing in the upstairs apartment and the sounds bled through. And did Regine Chassagne drop by for ten seconds to hammer on piano? Suddenly, after about three minutes, the song switches into a sludge-heavy fuzzed-out Cossack folk tune for a moment, like Black Sabbath playing "Bubak and Hungaricus." Then strings, back to Europe for the coda... and scene. And that's the first track."

SABER:100 Foot Drops

SABER - Mad SocietyI'm standing on a billboard that over looks the Hollywood Freeway. It's rush hour. The tension compliments the gritty Hollywood freeway grime that hovers in the air. Few take notice but the ones that do seem to be caught in a daze when they spot a shadowy figure standing on the 100 ft. ledge of this raw iron billboard.

That shadowy figure happens to be
SABER. The street artist whose most noted piece covered a span of over a 100 yards in the L.A. river. A piece that would send SABER into street art stardom.

The sun's setting. SABER has been standing on this ledge for well over 2 hours. He goes through the entire process never acknowledging his positioning on the crate that grants him an extra couple of feet. I grab a couple of shots & slowly slither away down a pole to the ground below. I sit around for another hour or so marveling at the resiliency that runs through SABER's blood.

There are few that often choose to run with the devil. On that grainy, muggy day there was no 2 foot ledge. The freeways were empty. No smog to speak of. No uniformed officials. No 100 Foot Drops.
On this day none of those things existed. Only a man, his passion & willingness to dream up a world where that world becomes a reality.

Fashion:Refocus & A Bag of Chips

"we did manage to see a really elegant white Rami Kashou gown that featured an origami-like bodice with a dramatic feathered skirt. The preliminary photos from this shoot were amazing"

Garrett Suhrie, stolen champagne bottles, brown paper bagging it, drunken party promoters, sandwiches for herbs, broken glass, trips down Stoney St. & this photo shoot
